IM® was originally used with children. Therapists treat children with attention-deficit, sensory-integrative and other disorders using the metronome. In 2001 a new training protocol was developed for academic and athletic applications. The Interactive Metronome® program provides a structured, goal oriented training process that challenges the client to precisely match a computer generated beat. |

Participants are instructed to synchronize various hand and foot exercises to a reference tone heard through headphones. The client attempts to match the rhythmic beat with repetitive motor actions such as tapping his/her toes on a floor sensor mat or clapping while wearing an IMŽ glove with palm trigger. Guide sounds tell you whether you are early, late, or right on the beat and your brain quickly learns how to find its own rhythm. Over a series of 12 to 15 sessions, your brain learns rhythm and timing, much like the way feedback from training wheels once helped you learn how to balance on a bicycle. As timing improves, so do motor control & coordination, focus, concentration & attention span, self-control, and school, sports, & social performance. |
